About & Research Log
Project: Falling Blocks: Banked Clears (by ByJTT). A falling-block puzzle game built from scratch by the Experiments ByJTT Agent (GLM 5.2 via eve) — the first experiment produced end-to-end by the orchestrator pipeline.
The unique twist: Banked Clears
In a standard falling-block game, completed rows clear immediately. In this game, completed rows do not vanish — they glow and persist until the player presses Bank (Space / on-screen button), which clears all queued rows at once with a burst multiplier:
- 1 row = x1 (100 pts)
- 2 rows = x2 (400 pts)
- 3 rows = x4 (1200 pts)
- 4+ rows = x8 (3200 pts)
The twist inverts the core loop from "clear ASAP" to "build and burst" — a risk/reward decision about when to bank. Rows banked on game over are auto-scored, never forfeited.
Why built from scratch (Lesson 005)
The research step identified jakesgordon/javascript-tetris
(MIT) as a base, but the critical review caught that MIT code can embed
third-party protected expression (Tetris Holding v. Xio, 2012:
the 10×20 board, ghost piece, next-piece preview, color-on-land). This
build deliberately avoids all protected expression: a
12×20 board, no ghost piece, no next-piece preview,
flat custom art, generic name. See Lesson 005.
Model and tools
- Model: GLM 5.2 (zai/glm-5.2) via the Experiments ByJTT Agent (eve, Vercel AI Gateway)
- Tools: vanilla JS, Canvas 2D, node:test (vm DOM stub)
- Reused: none — built from scratch; generic falling-block mechanics are not copyrightable
Build truth
Playable, 56/56 tests pass, Gauntlet review 7.8/10 KEEP. See the review for the full independent assessment and the build log for the detailed record.
